Dún Laoghaire and Rathdown was a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas from 1948 to 1977. The constituency elected 3 (and later 4) deputies (Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs) to the Dáil, using the single transferable vote form of proportional representation (PR-STV). == History == The constituency was created under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1947, for the 1948 general election to Dáil Éireann.〔 It initially returned 3 TDs but under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1961, it was increased to 4 from 1961 onwards. It was abolished under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 1974 with effect from the 1977 general election, and replaced by the new constituency of Dún Laoghaire.
